I met Twilla at the stable where we both boarded our horses. My daughter was absolutely terrified of the barn dog that lived on the premises. He did not show aggressive behavior toward anyone else except my daughter. A very large German Shepherd, he was highly intimidating when he would charge at my daughter. She had never spent time with large dogs and was always a bit fearful of them. You can imagine how Dock's behavior was making my daughter even more fearful.

One day, I arrived at the barn and Twilla was just finishing a ride. My daughter was crying because Dock had just chased us into the barn. Twilla asked what was wrong and I explained the situation to her.

Twilla spent the next hour working with my daughter and Dock. I cannot tell you how proud and relieved I was to see my daughter walking Dock, on leash at a perfect 'heel'! The stable manager said Dock had never walked at a heel and rarely had a leash on. Twilla had fashioned a makeshift leash by using her horse's lead rope.

Since that day, my daughter and Dock have become good friends and now, he greats her at the gate with that happy tail wag and wiggly excitement friendly dogs are known for. Although this event happened several years ago, I still think of Twilla and how she so selflessly came to our aid. My daughter remains unafraid of large dogs to this day and we owe it all to Twilla.
